Red Class Newsletter Spring Term 2025
Dear Parents,
Welcome back, we hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. This newsletter is intended to give you a quick overview of what’s happening this term. We will give you a weekly update via an email. Please make sure you read this information carefully every week, as we will include important timetable changes and events. If there are any important changes to the weekly schedule we will inform you with a text too.
Our learning this term –
This term we will have 2 topics. If you go down to the woods today and How will we get there?
We will be looking at lots of fabulous books written by a range of authors, fiction and non-fiction. We will have an exciting new role-play this term which is a vets and next half term we will have an aeroplane. We hope the children like it as much as we do!
Our first topic is all about woodland animals and we will be reading, The Gruffalo, Owl Babies, Hedgehog stories, Badger facts and more. We will be learning about hibernation, nocturnal life, habitats and much more. I am in the process of booking a trip to our local RSPCA to learn more.
We will then be moving on to transport and reading books such as, The Naughty Bus, Oi, Get off our train, Mr Gumpy’s outing and more. We will hopefully have a range of visitors and their mode of transport visiting us (if you have anything of interest, please let me know). I’m hoping to bring my tractor to school!
To find out more, please see our medium term plan which is on the website.
MYSTERY READER –This has always proven to be very popular with our parents/Grandparents in previous years. I will put a piece of paper with dates available on the classroom door which you can sign up to. This will be on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s at 2:45pm. You choose a book that you know your child likes and bring it in to read.
What is a mystery reader? You have to sign up secretly and do not let your child know. You come to the office at 2:40pm and we take you down to class. Then the children open their eyes and SURPRISE! You read the story to the children and the children ask you 5 questions about the story at the end. The children LOVE it and most parents/grandparents do too. We had a grandparent sign up at least 4 times last year!
P.E. and Forest School – P.E will be every Friday and Forest School will take place on a Thursday.
You will need to send your child in with wellies and waterproofs first week back. This bag will stay in school until half term and we will send them home to be washed. Please NAME EVERYTHING!
Please make sure clothes on a Thursday are appropriate for outdoor learning as the weather could be extremely wet and cold and please don’t send your child in lace up shoes unless they can do them by themselves. As you can imagine how much time this takes up during a day.
On a Friday your child can come in their own P.E clothes, we will be dancing this half term.
Reading / Little Wandles – This has been really successful last term. So many of you are reading with your child most nights. Don’t worry about what you have to write in the diary, just write ‘read’ if needs be, just so they can get a sticker.
Please continue to practise sounds and tricky words too.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards
Lucy Newman
