Red Class Newsletter Autumn Term 2024
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Red Class at Pear Tree School. We are looking forward to working with you over the year and welcoming your children into Red class. This newsletter is intended to give you a quick overview of what’s happening this term. We will give you a weekly update via an email. Please make sure you read this information carefully every week, as we will include important timetable changes and events. If there are any major changes to the weekly schedule we will inform you with a text too.
What does my child need to bring to school in September?
Your child is welcome to bring a small rucksack. On the first day back they will be given a simple clear plastic bag to carry their reading diary, reading book, named water bottle, named snack (no nuts) and any work back and to, to school in.
Our learning this term – For the first few weeks we will be busy settling your children in, seeing where they are up to in their learning and looking at a range of books all about ‘Families and Ourselves’. We will be sending more information about the baseline home.
Then we will be learning about MIX AND MATCH FAMILIES - ‘Ourselves’, ‘People who help us’ and ‘traditional/fairy tales’. This work will link in with our theme ‘The Family’ and we will be asking you to help us with this in the Home Learning activities. We will be sensitive to families who may have a different structure and celebrate a whole diversity of families through our stories and play.
Snacks – Your child will only need a small healthy snack e.g. piece of fruit, cereal bar (NO NUTS), as they don’t have long to eat them. Please make sure they are in a throw away bag or small tub, clearly named thanks. Writing on a banana is very satisfying! Nuts must not be brought in any form to school due to severe allergies some pupils have.
Lunches – Your child is entitled to a free school dinner for the first three years of school. If you are sending your own in, please name the lunch box.
Journals – The blue journal contains lots of information so please take some time to look through it. Please sign the permission forms. We will check journals daily and write in it when your child has read with an adult. In addition in the next week a pack will come home with a letter regarding home school agreement, allergies etc.
Reading – Over the next few weeks we will be assessing where all the children are up to with their learning across the curriculum including socially, verbally, artistically, mathematically etc. Reading and writing skills will also be assessed and your child will bring home a library book to share and when we start our reading, your child will have 1 Little Wandles book each week. Please make sure your child has their reading book in their bag, as we will not be able to give them a new one if they are not returned. Reading is a partnership so we need you to write a comment when you read with your child. Your child will receive a sticker for each time they read with you and when they have collected 5 in a week they have a star stamp. This year we are continuing to use ‘Little Wandles’ to teach our phonics and reading. This is different to how we normally teach phonics and reading, so things may seem a little different to you if you’ve previously had a child in Red class.
Our class meeting – An invite will be sent out next week. It is very important for you to attend as we will go into detail about classroom routines and the curriculum.
P.E. and Outdoor learning – P.E will be on every Friday so come dressed in P.E clothes and Forest School will take place on a Tuesday, your child is to come to school dressed in appropriate clothing (trousers/leggings, t shirt and jumper). You will need to send your child in with a bag, with wellies and waterproofs in. These bags will stay in school until half term and we will send them home to be washed.
Please NAME EVERYTHING!
We’re really looking to all our adventures in learning in Red Class!
Kind regards
Lucy Newman and Red Class team
