Red class newsletter 18.10.19
Date: 18th Oct 2019 @ 11:31am
Dear Parents,
We have been continuing our work on Goldilocks this week. We have been doing lots of writing – writing in our mini Goldilocks books, writing about our Teddy Bears and writing down our favourite porridge. In maths we have been looking at numbers to 5 in more detail and showing a range of ways in which 5 can be made up. E.g. 2+3, 1+4.
We had a visit from Goldilocks herself yesterday – which was a little surprising when we found my chair broken in class, porridge on the floor and a little girl running around school. Eventually we tracked her down and spoke to her about her ‘antics’ and she apologised and she left on good terms with a huge bag of porridge!
Next week:
We will be reading ‘Pumpkin Soup’ and will be carrying out a whole range of activities based around this book. We will be ordering numbered pumpkins, putting the correct number of pumpkin seeds to the numeral, playing pumpkin maths games, drawing and painting pumpkins, designing our own pumpkin faces, making mini pumpkins out of playdough, exploring pumpkins and what is inside, making pumpkin soup and writing down the ingredients needed and lots more…
Phonics – this week we have learnt ck,e,u and r. Next week we will learn h,b,f,ff
Forest school is on Monday – we will be collecting a range of leaves and looking for the signs of Autumn.
P.E is Tuesday where we will be continuing our throwing and catching skills.
Wednesday – please send a small named container in for your child’s pumpkin soup.
There will be a new class bear making his way around the class and coming home with your child at some point. Feel free to send a photo in of ‘Everywhere Bear’ and your child reading, but most importantly read this book together and enjoy!
PLEASE continue to read with your child and practise sound cards at home. See if they can make words and read these. Sounds learnt so far: s,a,t,p,i,n,m,d,g,o,c,k,ch,e,u,r. AND cursive name writing. Some children are now doing this beautifully – well done!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Newman and Red Team
