Newtletter 19/9/19

The last two weeks have been lovely in school with each class starting the year by studying the beautiful text; ‘The Lost Words’ by : Robert Macfarlane . This gave time for the teachers to undertake their baseline assessments, settle into new routines and ease the children back into school life through many creative experiences related to the book. Now you will start to see the children’s routines and work settling into a more normal pattern. We are delighted with how well the new Red Class children have settled and I thank all those parents in particular, for how well you have worked with us to make transition times as easy as possible for everyone. Together we are always stronger.

Please work with staff, especially those that are new, to allow them time to settle into life at Pear Tree, that way we all get the best outcomes.

This week the sun has shone and we have loved lunchtimes playing on the field. However, as the weather begins to change we are very aware that some children find a whole lunchtime outside difficult for a variety of reasons. To that end once the weather changes we are going to start a ‘Half and Half Calm Club’. This will be an opportunity in the hall extension for children to come in and play with Lego, do jigsaws, play board games and read. We are stressing to the children this is a half/half option as all need some time to get some fresh air and it is optional and staff are volunteering to cover this during their lunchtimes. We shall be talking to the children about it in assembly in the weeks to come but if you have any jigsaws or games you want to lose from home we would welcome them.

We are supporting The Nantwich Food Bank again this year, each class will have a collection box from Monday. We kindly ask if Red/Orange could donate long life juice, Yellow/Green long life milk, Blue/Indigo coffee and Violet hot chocolate. Many thanks for your support!

Drop Offs

If you want to see a member of staff, then please don’t do this in the morning. That is the time we need to get children into class and quickly settled to their morning activities. Either drop a note in your child’s diary or make an appointment via the office. Too many parents collecting at doors can lead to other children being unsupervised in the class. If the matter is urgent then please see a member of the senior management team (Mrs E, Mrs Hadfield or Mrs Newman).

Thank-you to the large number of parents and grandparents who have now completed their volunteer code of conduct and took part in the big sign-up. Over the next week we will be sorting through them and allocating you to classes. Staff will get in touch to confirm times and days with you toward the end of next week.

Don’t forget we have volunteer training on twice next week:

September 25th (5pm till 6pm) or September 26th (3.20-4.20pm). This is mainly for reading helpers but all volunteers are most welcome to attend. This will go through top tips and safeguarding and confidentiality expectations. We will offer childcare for school age children for these events. PLEASE SIGN UP IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND.

FLUENZ Immunisation forms – please return your consent forms by tomorrow.

Brine Leas Activity Day 5th October - Years 5 and Year 6 Tomorrow (Friday 20th September) is the last day for Activity Day forms to be returned to school. All activities will be commencing at 9am and collection time from Brine Leas is 1pm.

Bake off – Friday 27th September. If you would like to take part, please bring your cake/s on the morning with £2. There will be a number of categories: best adult baker, best KS1 baker, best KS2 baker, best decorated, best cupcakes, best biscuits etc. Once winners have been chosen, all cakes will be sliced and sold at 50p a slice.

We would love to welcome as many of you as possible to our coffee morning and look forward to seeing you on 27th September.

Threadworms – we have visitors in school, please check and seek advice on how to treat your child.

Community Notice

St Mary's Church Choir and members of SING! @St Mary’s (the Tuesday children's singing group) will be in church from 11am on Saturday 21st September to present an informal concert. This will be followed by coffee and cake for everyone. Entrance is free. Do join us if you can.

Also, if you are interested in your child learning to sing and being part of a choir in our church, we would love to see you then too. Our Musical Director will be more than happy to welcome you and answer any questions you may have.

Adhoc forms for October are now available from the office, please get them in as soon as possible. Please note to manage the booking/collection registers effectively and safely we need at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellation and amendments.

Throughout September our theme has been ‘on the farm’.  We have enjoyed making mud slime, learning about bees and making lots of farm animal crafts. Next week activities include a baking night on the 25th September (the children will be making chocolate chip cookies, rice krispie cakes and flapjacks) and a film night with popcorn (Charlotte's web) on 26th September!

Pear Tree School Games 2019

Football - Well, we have already kicked off with the sports this academic year.  We held football trials last week for years 5&6 and have now got our squad ready to play in this terms league.  The girl’s turnout was superb and they have all been invited to have weekly training on a Tuesday lunch time and there will be a tournament for girls coming up too.

Quad kids - We have 2 teams of Year 3&4 and 2 team of Year 5&6 attending this competition on Monday 23rd September at Malbank.  The children will take part in 4 events each, consisting of a sprint, long distance run, jump and a throw.  Good luck!

Cross Country – Mon 30th Sep -  A letter has gone out to the whole of KS2. All children are welcome to attend and join in.  The more children that turn up, the better chance we have of winning for our class and school.  This is also a good way of demonstrating your sporting aptitudes and will stand your child in good stead for other competitions over the year.  If you haven’t got a letter, please just drop me an email.

Sports Ambassadors - We are pleased to announce we have 4 new sports ambassadors in year 5&6 to help me (Mrs Newman) promote sport within our school - Daniel, Scarlett, Toby and Grace.  They will write sports reports, take photos and get more children interested in taking part in a range of sports.

Early Rugby Skills – Yellow class will be heading to the Vagrants on Tuesday where they will be taking part in a range of early rugby skills.  Tag rugby is a great team game and there will also be information on how to join clubs if your child shows an interest in this after the session.  Enjoy Yellow class.
