Indigo Class 2018 - 2019

Mrs O’Connor

Indigo Class Teacher

Welcome back and Hello Spring Term!

I hope you all had a wonderful break and I wish you a 2019 filled with happiness, kindness and smiles.

Back to it now, and what will this term bring? Our focus is on Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’. We will be working as a class to explore the story, characters and setting. We will then be working with other schools to create a performance, which we will perform at The New Vic, Newcastle-Under-Lyme.

During the first half of the Spring Term, we will be participating in Forest School. This will be every Wednesday and focus on the skill of teamwork. We will also be using the book ‘The Island’ by Armin Greder- this will also link to Book Club which is now on a Thursday.

Spellings will continue to be introduced on Fridays and stuck in the reading diary. We will review these over the following week so the children become familiar with spelling patterns as well as the words and meanings. They will be tested the following Thursday.

Home Learning will continue to be handed out every Thursday and checked the following Thursday. There is also a list of basic Maths facts for year Five at the bottom of the page, reviewing these on a regular basis would be beneficial.

PE will be on a Tuesday this term.

For other curriculum areas please see this term’s ‘cloudy overview’ at the bottom of the page.

A huge plea for you to share ‘reading experiences’ with your children this term. Fluency has come on leaps and bounds last term, this term we need to focus on increasing vocabulary- finding out the meaning of new words and exploring them and incorporating them into our own writing. Sometimes, the best way to do this initially is verbally, so talking about what is being read and explaining unfamiliar words is crucial to the development of language skills.

I can’t wait for another exciting term in Indigo Class, I loved my first term- the children were amazing. Thank you for all your support too with home learning requests, teacher for ten and support with reading.

The quote for this term
