Red Class Newsletter Autumn Term 2019

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Red Class at Pear Tree School.  We are looking forward to working with you over the year and welcoming your children into Red class.  This newsletter is intended to give you a quick overview of what’s happening this term.  We will give you a weekly update, which you will find on the webpage of the school website http://www.peartreeprimary.co.uk/Pear_Tree_Primary_School/Welcome.html and receive an email too.  Please make sure you read this information carefully every week, as we will include important timetable changes and events.  If there are any major changes to the weekly schedule we will inform you with a text too.

Our learning this term –  For the first three weeks we will be busy settling your children in, seeing where they are up to in their learning and looking at the book ‘The Lost Words’ and carrying out some activities based on this.

Then we will be learning about MIX AND MATCH FAMILIES  -  ‘Ourselves’, ‘People who help us’ and ‘traditional/fairy tales’. This work will link in with our theme ‘The Family’ and we will be asking you to help us with this in the Home Learning activities.  We will be sensitive to families who may have a different structure and celebrate a whole diversity of families through our stories and play.

Snacks – Your child will only need a small healthy snack e.g. piece of fruit, cereal bar (NO NUTS), as they don’t have long to eat them.  Please make sure they are in a small container (if needed) and clearly named thanks.  Writing on a banana is very satisfying!  Nuts must not be brought in any form to school due to severe allergies some pupils have.  We also have a child with Coeliac in class so we will need to make children aware of not sharing any food with others.

Journals – The blue journal contains lots of information so please take some time to look through it.  Please sign the permission forms.  We will check journals daily and write in it when your child has read with an adult.  In addition in the next week a pack will come home with a letter regarding home school agreement, allergies etc.

Reading –  Over the next few weeks we will be assessing where all the children are up to with their learning across the curriculum including socially, verbally, artistically, mathematically etc.  Reading and writing skills will also be assessed and your child will bring home two reading books twice a week and we will normally change reading books on a Monday and a Thursday.  Please make sure your child has reading books in their bag, as we will not be able to give them a new one if they are not returned.  Reading is a partnership so we need you to write a comment when you read with your child.  Your child will receive a sticker for each time they read with you and when they have collected 5 in a week they have a star stamp.

Our class meeting – Monday 9th September 4:15-4:45pm. It is very important for you to attend as we will go into detail about classroom routines and the curriculum.

Mornings – As you know we have staggered times for the start of the day to ensure your child settles into a routine of coming into the classroom.  You are welcome to stay until the register which is 9:05am.  After a couple of weeks we will see if the children have settled and then you will be asked to drop your child at the classroom door at 8:45am to develop their independence.  Please collect your child at 3:15pm outside our classroom and one of us will post them out.  If someone else is picking up please let us know (writing in the diary is the best way).

Parent Helpers – If you are willing to give up a short space of time to support our learning or utilise your skills e.g. reading, baking, sewing in Red Cass we would be really grateful.  Just pop in and let us know and we will get the paper work in place.

P.E. and Outdoor learning  – Outdoor Learning will be on every Monday and P.E. will take place on a Tuesday.  You will need to send your child in with a bag, with wellies and waterproofs in.  These bags will stay in school until half term and we will send them home to be washed.  Please NAME EVERYTHING!  On a Monday your child can come in their own clothes, please make sure these are appropriate for outdoor learning.

On the Tuesday P.E will be at 9am so please send your child in their P.E kit and send their school uniform in a bag to get changed into after.

We’re really looking to all our adventures in learning in Red Class!

Kind regards
