Newtletter 5/9/19

Welcome Back

What a fabulous start to the new school year. Lots of very happy, smiley little people arriving in school and settling so quickly, it has been a super first couple of days. We also welcome both Miss Addis to Year 1 and Miss Rowe as a new classroom assistant in Year 4. Many thanks to all parents and carers for the brilliant part you have played with the smooth start, particular those families new to the school. It is very hard leaving little people especially if you think they are a bit tearful but we promise you they settle very quickly and if they didn’t we would let you know.

This year we might not be building but we do want to improve our playground and develop our outdoor learning further. We are planning parents’ sessions for maths and a new library open afternoon each week to enable and encourage parents to come and change books with their children. Look out for more details. We have an Eco week in February and lots of work linking to the Olympics in 2020 along with all the amazing array of trips, events and adventures that you have come to expect from us all.

We want the very best for your child, if you have any concerns please come in and discuss them, don’t take to social media as it never allows issues to be solved and all sides to be understood. Email your child’s class teacher in the first instance and arrange a meeting or drop them email. Just be aware that Pear Tree Primary School respects the work-life balance of all its staff. If an email has been sent out of normal working hours, there is no expectation to provide an immediate response.

After school Clubs

Letters will be coming home with your child shortly, some clubs start next week and others the week after. Please make a note of dates because all clubs are different.

Holidays in Term Time

We have lots of great things already planned for the year so please try to avoid holidays in term time. Very rarely will they be agreed and every day your child is missing school has a negative impact on their progress both socially and emotionally. We make it very clear that no holidays are ever authorised in the first half term and Year 6 must not be out of school at all for holidays in the last term and a half as it is such an important time.

Fines will be issued in line with Local Authority guidance guidelines this year if holidays are over ten sessions (singularly or combined over the year).

Now for lots of usual start of year reminders!

  • Please name coats, main items of clothing including shoes and ensure PE kit is all named and in school all week (with the exception of Red class who follow Mrs Newman’s instructions on that one).
  • Please make sure if your child is doing Forest schools they have suitable clothing for wet and muddy conditions and wellies.
  • If any of your contact details have changed let the school office know. The same applies to any changes in who collects your child, who is on our contact lists or if your child has a change in medical needs.
  • Please make sure you have a diary or calendar, you will need them, plus a supply of envelopes. Your child will have come home with a blue journal this week, please read and sign various permissions in the front.

If a different adult is collecting your child than who normally collects you MUST let the class teacher or office know by 3.00p.m. at the very latest or again we cannot release your child to them.

Years 4,5 and 6 only

If you decide your child can walk to or from school on their own, we must have written evidence of this either an email to your child’s class teacher or a note in their diary or we cannot allow them to go unaccompanied. Even if this happened last year at the start of the year we need you to renew this.

Class Meetings

Next week we will host our annual class meetings and encourage you to come along to meet your child’s teacher and learn a little more about the routines and topics that class will be running. All meetings take place in your child’s classroom and unfortunately there is no crèche facility on this occasion.
