PC Nick Jarvis

Our local PCSO Nick Jarvis continues to be a regular visitor in school and this term he will be continuing his regular drop-ins and talks to the children. In the past he has spoken to the children about the role of the police and road safety. This term he will be looking at valuing others belongings and keeping yourself safe when out of school. These topics were both brought up as part of the work the river families have recently undertaken on safeguarding and talking about issues that concern them. Pupil Voice continues to frame much of our learning particularly our Heart and Soul curriculum. This covers areas from personal safety, relationships education, KIVA (Our anti-bullying programme), British Values, personal safety (including Internet safety work) and wellbeing.

Road safety and parking – please do not park or pull up on the yellow lines outside our school or gateways. It is not safe.

Internet Safety Day

This year Safer Internet Day is on Tuesday February 7th. As part of the day each class will be using resources from both the CEOPs website and UK Safer Internet Centre. Please see the school website where our new online safety page is developing thanks to Mrs Cliff!

Your feedback is always welcome

This is our school and as such we always welcome constructive feedback from our families. As a school in the next few months we will be looking at redeveloping our Heart and Soul Curriculum and looking at Internet Safety and how best to help families. If you have any suggestions or would like to work as part of a group of parents, I would welcome your contributions. There will be a feedback form available at Parent’s evening and STAR days and they are also always available in school reception. Together we are always stronger.

Every Child a Reader at Pear Tree

Our work focussing on helping reading to develop further and flourish continues at a pace. Again a huge thanks to all parents and grandparents and governors who give time to listen to readers and to all the parents who support their children every night by sharing books and instilling that love of books. If you would be able to help in school in any way we are always keen to hear from you. Across the school we now have Reading Recovery for Year 1 and 2 children, comprehension interventions across year 4, 5 and 6, switch on booster reading and writing programmes in Year 2, 3 and 4 and next half term Reception will start Talk Boost. All these different programmes alongside first quality teaching and your help are helping to make Pear Tree children confident and competent readers of the future. Reading makes life chances!

Every Day Maths

If you live near school you may have spotted trails of little people and staff walking over the Co-op taking part in real-life maths. Yellow and Red class have been regulars in the past couple of weeks with their shopping lists and the juniors are beginning to visit too in the weeks ahead. Understanding money and its value in many different real life contexts is so important, so give them a wave when you see our little shoppers – they are loving it!

Parents’ Evening Wednesday 8th February 3.30-6pm and Tuesday 14th February 3.30-7pm

Please book your 10 minute appointment if you haven’t already.

PE Kit

Can I remind all parents that sport kit clearly labelled with your child’s name must be in school all week every week. PE is a legal requirement of the curriculum and sadly there are a number of children who regular appear without kit. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

World Book Day

This year this is on Thursday March 2nd just after half term. The four days of the week from February 28th to Friday 3rd will be a book week in school. Whilst doing all our normal learning we will be particularly focussing on the fantastic stories of Julia Donaldson in the Infants and JK Rowling in Key Stage Two and encouraging all children to take part in a World Book Dressing Up Day on Thursday March 2nd as either a character from a Julia Donaldson Book if they are an infant or a JK Rowling Character (or mythical beast), if they are in the juniors.

Dates for your Diary

Comic Relief – Red Nose Day Friday 24th March your child is invited to wear red.

This year we are warmly welcoming parents and grandparents into school, to ‘Stay and Learn’ for a morning. Watch out for the invitation and booking form that will go out before half term. The Key Stage 2 morning is Monday March 27th, 9am to 11.30am and KS1/Reception is Wednesday March 29th 9am to

New Cook

We welcome Mrs Gillian Matthews who has now come to work at Pear Tree as our school cook through Cheshire East Catering. Meals are £2.20 a day. Should your child like to have school meals then please contact Mrs Nixon in the school office.

Free School Meals

Whatever age your child is, if you think you might be entitled to free school meals please can you apply. This attracts £1900 per pupil per year and makes a huge difference to our budget in supporting all our pupils. Even if your child is in the infants and so gets free meals at the moment, it is vital if you qualify that you claim otherwise we don’t get that invaluable additional money. Please claim if you can! Again please see Mrs Nixon or Mrs Littlewood if you need any further details or phone 0300 123 5012.

Term Dates

We have been made aware of some websites that offer information about school term dates. Some of the information on these sites is incorrect. We do not engage with or supply information about our term dates to any other organisations or companies. The correct and most up to date term dates and inset days are published on our school website. If you are thinking about booking a holiday, we recommend that you check the PARENTS section (Holidays) page of the School Website. This can be found at

Should you have any further queries then please contact the School office for clarification.
