Newtletter 9th November 2017

Only 44 days till Christmas!
On that amazing thought we start this week’s Newtletter with a plea. Would any family or group of families like to ‘sponsor’ our Christmas tree? We would love to have a big tree once again in our entrance hall but they are remarkable expensive! We are happy to then donate it to a local charity on December 20th but have it in school from the first week of December. If you think you could help then please let the school office know.

Despite polite earlier requests not to, we still have families regularly bringing their dogs to school at the start of the day or at pick up time and chaining them to our gates very close to the children’s entrance. Dogs are not allowed on the site – carried or otherwise. One or two are quite large and some very vocal. We know you know your dogs but not everyone is comfortable with them and there have been a high number of complaints about them frightening

Defib For Life update
Now fully fitted our Defib is in the entrance area both as a school and community resource. It is registered with the North West Ambulance service and we welcomed Gavin Palin and Max to school on Wednesday evening to train staff. We have notified local businesses and put signs on the gates but please ensure neighbours know that if it is needed it’s here. The cabinet is NOT locked and if a member of the public needs it is accessible when school is open.

Save the date
This year on December 15th we will be holding a Christmas Jumper Day in school. We are asking if your child would like, they wear a Christmas jumper for the day and make a minimum £2 donation. All monies raised will be going to St Luke’s Hospice – an invaluable local charity that supports our community.

It is vital all children arrive on time for school each day. We have a few who are consistently arriving after 8.50a.m. which is the start of the day. Please help us to address this and improve punctuality. Your child really loses out on social time with their friends before school and misses the first important activities of the day.

Children in Need
Friday 17th November – children are invited to wear non uniform and bring in copper coins so we can create a giant pear in our reception area.

River Families at Pear Tree and what does that mean?
Here at Pear Tree every child is assigned to a river family when they start and we have chosen the names of local rivers for their families ie Bollin, Checkley, Dane, Dee, Mersey, Gowy and Weaver. There are approximately 30 children in each river ranging from our very youngest to our oldest children. Staff are also assigned to a river too (see below) and there are 2 river family captains for each river family (elected by the children) who look after the group.
The river family captains take their roles seriously. This year they have decided they’d like to reinstate the river family lunches that we used to have a few years ago and so we will start these on Thursday 16th November with Bollin. When it’s your child’s turn they will come home with a letter asking whether they’d like a school dinner that day or bring their own packed lunch. It doesn’t matter what they choose the important thing is that they sit together in the hall with the rest of their ‘family’ and enjoy eating at a table together.
The river family captains have some great ideas for fundraising this year and in January cake sales are planned to raise money-more details will follow. Later in the year there will also be a river family sports day; last year Bollin were the champions!
We value the importance that being in a river family has at Pear Tree as it creates that feeling of belonging and I hope you will support your child with the various activities we have planned this year.

We would like to reveal last month’s competition winners, Logan from Red class and Joshua from Blue class. They both successfully designed and made a clay pumpkin for Halloween.
This month’s competition is to produce a detailed autumn picture using any resources the children can get their hands on. We look forward to seeing the results!
We are looking to offer a late night on Friday 24th November, where PIPS will be open until 7pm for you to go Christmas shopping. If you would like to use this service please tell a member of staff, even if they don’t normally attend. This late night will only run depending on numbers.

PTA Christmas Bingo - This fun filled night will take place on Friday 1st December - letter to follow next week. Children can dress in non uniform on the day in exchange for a chocolate or sweet donation or a gift for the raffle will be gratefully received.
Christmas Wrapping Paper! The PTA would be grateful for any donations of Christmas wrapping paper that you no longer need - these can be used rolls and odds and ends that we can put to good use. There will be a box in the reception area at school next week.

Unwanted Foreign Coins
Don't know what to do with your left over foreign currency? This year the PTA are pleased to have agreed to support the school financially with some fantastic improvements in outdoor learning and resources for KS1 in addition to the music we currently support for KS2. We will gratefully accept any foreign currency and can convert it into cash for the school. We will have a money box in reception next week and will display some pictures to give you an idea of what the school is planning and what we need the money for.
