Harvest
It was lovely to see parents and grandparents at our school harvest service last Friday.
Thank-you so much to everyone who generously donated to our Harvest Food Bank appeal. We will be delivering our contributions to the sorting centre next week and Jane Emery who runs the Nantwich Food bank wanted to ensure everyone was thanked for the difference the donations will make. We also took the service as the opportunity to present Jane with a cheque for £150 raised through our recent 'Pear Tree Pounds the Park’.

Fire Practice
As part of our termly fire drills we undertook our first practice last month and everyone was safely out of the building within two minutes which was excellent. The children were quiet, calm and sensible.
Just a reminder that should a fire bell go off at a time you are dropping your children off then take your children immediately to their class lines by the wood stores on the yard and go to the parent's fire point by the large sandpit on the field. Do not stay with your child or attempt to leave the site until you are told it is safe to do so by Mrs E, Mrs Hadfield or Mr Challinor.

De-Fib News
Thanks to the tremendous support of a family we are now in the process of purchasing a de-fib that will be located within school so at all times we have it available for use if required. Whilst we hope we never need it, it is tremendously reassuring to know we have such lifesaving equipment to hand.

Our first aid lead in school remains as Mrs Yeomans with Mrs E, Mrs Howard and Mrs Maumy who are also fully qualified first aiders. A further six staff have emergency or paediatric first aid qualifications.

If you have any changes in your child's medical conditions or allergies please make sure we know immediately so we can help support them whilst in school.
Please can I remind you NOT to send nuts in any form in to school with your child. We have children that have severe nut allergies.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Just like the de-fib we have a long list of new equipment we would love to purchase over the coming year from small items: story sacks, Lego and maths equipment to big things such as an outdoor classroom and raised beds in our garden area. If you or any company you work for feel you could sponsor or support the purchase of such items then please let us know.
Reminders – please return your Data Collection sheets and ensure permissions are signed in your child’s reading diary.

School Development Plan 2017-2018
This year we have many exciting plans. From purchasing 35 new laptops for pupil use, updating our IT systems, continuing our focus on developing a love of reading and maths to improving staff confidence with phonics and spelling teaching. We are also beginning to plan a special 'STEAM' week (Science, technology, enterprise, art and music) in February another Pear Tree Pounds the Park on May 24th, and the year five will be taking part in the Shakespeare workshops ahead of a fabulous performance opportunity in Manchester, Year four will once again be taking part in the Nantwich Partnership (NEP) enterprise competition and a visit to Conway whilst year three will be part of the town wide Singfest. Reception and year one will also be singing with Barney Bear next year with a little help from The Love Music Trust. Year two will enjoy an adventure at Beeston and there are already plans in place to visit Harry Potter World and Chester!
There will be two Christmas performances at St Mary’s to make sure everyone gets a seat this year and lots of assemblies for parents to come in and share what the children have been learning. We have a new Forest School programme starting and are currently looking at ways we can offer Forest School after school or at weekends so families can enjoy our lovely grounds too. We will also run family information evenings and stay and another learn and stay morning! It promises to be another super year and headline plans will be available for all parents and carers at parent's evenings and Star days and the full plan available to view on the school website next week.
If you would like to know anything more about these or feel you could get involved in STEAM work then please let us know. We are always stronger together.

Can you help your child and their school by applying for this???

Knife and Fork – HELP PLEASE
We now have a shockingly high number of children who physically cannot hold or use a knife and fork. Much of lunchtime is spent teaching this basic skill and reminding children that picking up all food with their fingers is neither nice nor hygienic. Please can you ensure your child from Orange class upward understands that you need to use both a knife and fork at meal times and help them develop an ability to cut their food. This is a vital life skill and one we struggle to cover in the limited time we have at mealtimes with the children.
Pips
Fish and chip tea tomorrow spaces still available please order if you haven’t already.
This month’s competition is to make a pumpkin design using clay; the children will be able to take their clay pumpkins home for Halloween. The child with the best pumpkin design will win a special Halloween prize. Good luck!
At the end of the month we will be hosting an autumn disco for all the children, with party games and food.
Please make a note of the Pips mobile number for any adhoc bookings or changes 07908192451 and try to give at least 24 hours notice so we can ensure we have enough staff available.
