Newtletter 5th March

Thinking Day

Over 50 pupils celebrated World Thinking Day together on Friday. We have over a quarter of our children in one of the local groups be they Rainbows, Guides, Scouts, Brownies, Beavers or Cubs. The children are rightly proud of all that they achieve as members of the Scouting movement so we were delighted so many felt able to come in their uniforms last week. We had a lovely assembly celebrating Scouting and did a whole history lesson on Mrs E’s Brownie uniform from the 1970s with a 2p coin in the pocket for an emergency phone call – then spent time explaining what a phone box was! How times have changed!

We have been approached by the Whirlpool Corporation to include the following information on our newsletter and as some families may have a potentially dangerous washing machine in their house which can be replaced for free we felt it was worth a share;

‘Last December, Whirlpool alerted customers to a safety risk concerning certain models of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines. We are urging owners of appliances purchased since 2014 to contact Whirlpool immediately to check their washing machine is one of the models affected.

We have already located 1/3 of the affected products but still have 2/3s to replace.

Owners affected by the recall are entitled to a replacement washing machine or a repair to their existing appliance – both provided completely free of charge.

Our message to customers remains that they can instantly check if their washing machine is affected by visiting;

Spare uniform

We have a HUGE pile of unnamed sweatshirts that will have to go in the waste soon. Look out for them on the table outside the staffroom door when dropping off or picking up - please help yourself. If named the students have now left and otherwise they are part of the great ‘unnamed’! It is appalling that so many are lost and unclaimed so please take them home – some I admit need a good dose of stain remover but some are brand new! NO CHARGE LET’S RECYCLE A BIT MORE AND SAVE OURSELVES SOME MONEY.

Outstanding Monies

Can we politely remind parents that dinner monies and childcare payments must be made in a timely way. If you have any difficulties meeting costs, then always come in and talk to us. Short term we know it can sometimes be difficult and unexpected expenses arise. We do contact parents to chase monies for Pips, clubs and dinner monies and whilst aware that school trips are an add on, we cannot continue to run these if they make a significant loss.

Free School Meals Application Process

Please note, Parents and carers can apply online for Free School Meals (FSM) and get an immediate decision for their entitlement. The application is made through the same portal that the parent/carer applies for a school place.

Details of FSM eligibility can be found at;

Alternatively, a telephone application can be made on 0300 123 5012

Indigo class – Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet

Indigo have busy been devising their piece for their New Vic Performance on the 17th March. They have been given the part of 'Friar Lawrence'. For this, they have to create a ten-minute piece that tells the story of the Friar and his involvement in the story of Romeo and Juliet. Sue Harding, one of the creative directors of the Shakespeare festival Indigo are involved in, came in on Tuesday to work with the children on their piece. Only time will tell, will the Friar be pardoned or punished...
