Town Sports

Thanks to everyone involved in Town Sports last week. A highpoint of the school year! We were brilliant, our Yr. 4 team won the overall prize for the year which is a huge achievement and we narrowly missed out of medal positions in the overall awards. There were outstanding solo performances and the competitive spirit that all the children (and their parents!) showed was exemplary. It was two of the hottest nights I have ever experienced and I was very, very proud. Particular thanks to Mrs Kay Leydon for all her support and to Mrs Newman for her ceaseless drive.

Sports Day tomorrow - KS1 9.30am and KS2 1.30pm

Chester Zoo

Yr. 1 went to Chester Zoo for a day last week and had a super time. We made sure they brought no extra ‘friends’ home and huge thanks to all the wonderful parents who helped look after the children on what was a very warm day! Well done Orange class you were real stars!

Next Year

Plans are well underway for next year and it promises to be another fantastic year for the children and all our school family. Look out for a letter later today outlining classes and teachers as well as highlighting just some of our plans for the year ahead.

Registration forms are now flying in and bookings being taken for September for the Before and After School Club. If you have not registered your child yet please send your form in next week. By the end of this week we aim to have a manager and deputy ready to start and Mrs E has already been on her first shopping trip to IKEA! Remember if you have books, toys, electronic game consoles etc. that you no longer want please pass them on we would love to help you recycle!

A reminder to all families that Nantwich Schoolsfest is on Saturday 1st July. Some KS2 children will be taking part in the Big Sing on Nantwich Town Square at 10am. There will also be artwork from each class on display at Nantwich Museum.

Key Stage 2 – Summer Spectacular - ‘Pear Tree Meets the Musicals’

The children have been working hard to learn their lines and have been busy singing. They’re looking forward to sharing their Summer Spectacular with you

We’d like to go ticketless this year for the performance. There will be a dress rehearsal on Thursday 6th July at 10am where there will be 200 seats available and an afternoon performance at 2pm where the same numbers of seats are also available. Please can we ask that grandparents, younger siblings and other relatives attend these performances please. In the evening, at 7pm, there will also be 200 seats but this is always our busiest performance so we politely request that only two seats per family are available in order to get everyone in. We really don’t want to turn anyone away so we’re hoping that if you’re able to come to one of the earlier performances that you’ll do so to help us all out. We look forward to welcoming you all next Thursday.

Pear Tree Pounds the Park

The date is drawing near for our end of year major fundraiser for school. Please sign up and get involved in Pear Tree Pounds the Park on Wednesday July 19th. YOU DON’T HAVE TO RUN! There are two walking options so please encourage grandparents and little ones to join in too. Application forms can be downloaded off our school website, are available at the front desk and have gone out in school bags. We want to raise over a £1000 to support the Nantwich Food Bank and to re-stock our school library.

Each week Mrs Boughey will be posting a Key Stage 1 and 2 book recommendation on the school website It can be found on the library page. This will help to keep parents up to date with new books published along with reminding us of some old favourites too!

In Key Stage 1 this will take the form of a picture book to share and enjoy with your child.

This week’s recommendations: KS1 – The Book with No Pictures by BJ Novak and KS2- The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave (more suitable for upper KS2)

Pear Tree Sports and Games

Well, what a fantastic few weeks we have had!

We took part in Town Sports, which was over 2 evenings. A squad of over 40 children took part in a range of events such as hurdles, relay, sprint, beanbag, high jump, long jump and javelin. 33 schools took part and we were in the top group of 11 and came 4th overall. This is an amazing achievement and we are very proud! Thank you to all the parents and children and all of those who helped in organising such a big event for our school.

This week has been ‘Active week’ and every morning we have kicked off with our usual running and then a whole school dance. The staff and children have thoroughly enjoyed this! The children have also been busy practising for their sports day which is tomorrow (hoping it doesn’t rain). If so, the reserve day is Monday. KS1 is 9:30am and KS2 is 1:30pm, hope to see lots of you there. The children have also been out running during the school day, clocking up the miles and enjoying getting fit.

On Tuesday we took a squad of x4 children from Green and Blue to Brine Leas for a Tennis competition. They played brilliantly and WON the competition and are now through to county finals next week. Good luck!

Next week: We have the cross country event for ALL children in KS2, if you haven’t handed your slips in yet, then please email Mrs Newman to let her know, it’s not too late to sign up!

Please sign up for Pear Tree Pounds the park, not long left till this brand new event for our school. We are raising money for school funds and local charities. See our website or Mrs Newman for more details. Everyone is welcome and you can walk, jog or run any of the distances.

Tuesday 11th July – Yr3&4 Diamond cricket – look out for a letter coming out soon. If your child wants to take part they will receive a letter.

New date - Tuesday 18th July – We have a whole school River family sports day planned for the children. We have specialist coaches coming in and the children will take part in a range of activities throughout the day and they will get to work together in their family groups to accumulate points. Who will win??
