Newtletter 28th November 2019

Advent is nearly here!

Well as I write, the carols have begun and a variety of camels, kings and sheep are passing my office door! How quickly we are here again in those last three very busy weeks running up to the end of term. Please check the diary dates really carefully now as there is lots going on! Thank you once again for your support of the Nantwich Foodbank reverse advent calendar. Each class is doing tremendously well donating their chosen items. We have listed them below just in case you are not sure. All donations need to be in by Friday 6th December.

Red – Box of chocolates/biscuits

Orange – Tins of sponge pudding/rice/custard/fruit

Yellow – Christmas cake/pudding

Green – Toiletry gifts/crackers

Blue – Hot chocolate/long life juice/ coffee

Indigo – Toiletries

Violet – Washing up liquid/powder

Being on time

Even at this time of year it helps for school to run best when we all arrive on time. The school day starts at 8.50a.m. so please ensure your child is here and ready to start every day on time. Children who arrive late lose really valuable learning and social time.

Christmas Jumper Day

Each year we hold a Christmas jumper day to support the invaluable work that St Luke’s Hospice do for our community. Please support us again this year with a minimum £1 donation on Friday December 13th for that chance to wear a Christmas jumper for the day. Parents are most welcome to extend this to their work place and support St Luke’s and we will happily share your work pictures on our Facebook pages, publicise your support and submit your donation with ours if you want. Just let the school office know! Posters are available again see the school office team.

Poppy Sales

Thank-you to everyone who supported our School Poppy Appeal this year. We raised £42.90 for the Royal British Legion.

Fire Drill

This week we undertook a fire drill. The whole school were out of the building in less than 1 and a half minutes and all in lines at the muster point by 2 minutes and 25 seconds. This was excellent and particularly good as the whole of the infant department were in the hall singing at the time of the drill. The children were brilliant and all followed the routine that we had rehearsed in September.

Norovirus

We have been told from Public Health England this week that there are very high levels of the Norovirus in the local authority, particularly within hospitals and schools. This is a particularly unpleasant sickness bug that no one wants as their Christmas gift. If your child is sick or has diarrhoea they must not come into school for 48 hours after the last time they were unwell. We want children in school as much as we can but they need to be well. The 48 hour rule is strictly followed as it is one of the most proven preventions to stop the spread of this illness. Every class this week will also have a reminder lesson on the importance of washing hands and we will increase our vigilance with this too in the hope we can try to keep school as germ free as we can at this time of year.

Christingle Service

On Sunday 1st December at 4pm there will be a Christingle Service at St Mary's Nantwich. This makes a lovely start to Advent, including singing, prayers, and music from St Mary's children's choir, and the lighting of the decorated oranges with candles. Everyone welcome!

Reading Together – Library open afternoons

It has been absolutely fantastic to welcome so many parents and grandparents to our school library on Friday afternoons. This Friday all our Christmas books will be available to borrow for the week. The library is open every Friday from 2:45-3:30 to choose and share a book with your child, Mrs Boughey and the pupil librarians.
