Wow! What amazing families we have. The harvest service last week was special many parents and grandparents joined us along with Jane Emery from the Nantwich Foodbank and Vicar Barrie from St Mary’s and on Monday McKenzie and Radisa went with Mr Challinor and I to the Food Bank collection centre and weighed in over 200kg of food, nappies, baby wipes etc. That contribution will make a huge difference to families in our community and goes to demonstrate just why Pear Tree and its families are at the heart of their community!

 Local Democracy Week

Last week we also welcomed our local MP Edward Timpson to school who spoke to the juniors about democracy. This linked in with National local Democracy week and we finished off the day with the help of the Stapeley Parish Council who came in and ran a proper vote, with booths, ballot box and voting cards as well! All the children were asked to vote on the colour of the Christmas Tree Lights that will go on the tree outside the community centre this year. The results are being counted and the majority wins! Thanks especially to Mrs Jo Hillman for organising such a super real-life experience for the children to have a say in their community.

 Democracy at a school level!

The River Families work is now happening across the school with each family captain helping to lead the younger children in discussions about things they can influence in their school. Last month the children looked at school dinners and came forward with recommendations about what they would like to see more of on the menu and less of! I’m taking their ideas to Cheshire East catering and in the New Year I’m sure the new menus will reflect their ideas. This month the captains are going to be asked to take part in a whole school pupil questionnaire so we can get lots of feedback!

 Dropping off…dangerously!

A parent very forcefully pointed out to me how dangerous it is when parents’ park on the double yellow lines outside school to drop off and they are quite right! Please, however bad the traffic has been, or how late you are, we all need to keep our children safe. The road outside school is very busy please don’t make it worse with selfish parking!

 Christmas Carol Service

This year our whole school carol service will be at 6.15 on Monday December 12th at St Mary’s Church in the centre of Nantwich. We are planning (weather permitting) to meet on the square at 6pm with lanterns and torches and have a light procession into church and then all the children will take part in readings, songs, poetry and carols to really welcome Christmas in. Further details will come out after half term but please keep the date free as parts and readings will be allocated based obviously on all those who can commit to be there.

 Christmas Jumper Day

Please keep Friday December 16th   in your diary as we will be wearing our festive T-shirts and woolly pullies for Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day! Mrs Hadfield is organising this and will send out more information once December starts!

Parents Evenings will be running on 26th and 27th October in the hall. Each appointment will be 8 minutes with the teacher. Refreshments will be available.

Book Fair – On Parents’ Evenings, there will be a Book Fair from 3pm in the library which the PTA has kindly offered to run. The children will have chance during the school day to look at books and will bring a leaflet home from ‘Travelling Books’. We usually generate lots of funds for new books for our library from the Fair.

Crewe Alex football tickets for Saturday 22nd October – we still have some spare in the school office.

Green class have started connecting online! The children have been using the website to hold a class discussion around the question 'Is it better to be an adult or a child?'
We are also enjoying the blogs that the children have created for themselves.  With topics ranging from 'best books you have read’ to ‘what your favourite animal is?' there is something for everyone!

Dinner money for next half term is £72.60 for Green, Blue and Indigo and £66.00 for Violet class. Please pay in advance for school meals please via your School Money login.

Menu – please find attached a new menu which starts after half term.

A big thank you for all the books, costumes, toys and games you have donated to the school we are very grateful.
