Red Class Newsletter 16.11.17

Date: 17th Nov 2017 @ 12:14pm

Dear parents,

This week we have been focusing on the story Little Red Riding Hood. The children have enjoyed acting out the story using masks and story spoons. In maths we have worked on money. The children were given Red Riding Hood’s basket to take to Grandma’s house and had to buy cakes to fill it. The children have also done some fabulous writing, we have written lists of all the things Little Red Riding Hood needed to take to Grandma’s house. The children used their phonic knowledge to help them sound out words. In PE this week we have done basic gymnastics skills (different ways of travelling) and in Forest school the children enjoyed creating leaf crowns, linking to last weeks Cinderella theme.

At home this week can you please keep up with the reading, name writing and doodle maths. As we have finished phase 2 letters and sounds this week, can you please use the captions attached and see if the children can read these or even have a go at writing them if you read it to them aloud.  All of these captions contain phase 2 sounds and the tricky words that we have learned so they should be able to work them out.

Next week our theme is based around the book Hansel and Gretel. They have some lovely activities planned around this story such as creating their own mini biscuit sweet houses, using sweets in maths to create repeated patterns and creating missing posters for Hansel and Gretel. In PE they will be continuing with gymnastics and in forest school they will be creating shelters.

Have a lovely weekend!
Miss McGraw and Red team.
