Red class newsletter 14.12.18

Date: 14th Dec 2018 @ 9:26am

Dear Parents,

Well, what another jammed packed week we have had.  Lots of rehearsing for our nativity and we have read ‘The Snowman’.  The children have written their own sentences about the story, played a snowman maths games and created their own ‘Snowman’ scene using pastels and ink. (this display can be seen on our school facebook).  We also had our last PE session this week with Mr Jones, we have been learning our throwing and catching skills and what a difference 6 weeks has made (videos on Learning Book).  Madam Leydon came in and gave Red class a French lesson, we met ‘Domino’ the dog puppet, sang a song and read a story in French.  You will have received a letter about starting French club in January.

Yesterday the children were lucky enough to watch ‘Red Wellies’ Nativity in our school hall.  It was really sweet and Mrs E commented on the exemplary behaviour of them all!

A few reminders –

  • Bacon butty – if your child would like a bacon butty on a Friday, then please send money in on a Thursday in a named envelope and stating it is for a bacon butty at 50p.
  • Nativity costumes – these need to be in now ready for the dress rehearsal.  We will send them home at the end of Wednesday so you can bring your child ready dressed for Church.
  • Hair up – sadly we have a number of cases of head lice who love to crawl between children particularly in the infants.  We ask for hair to be tied up to stop the expensive and frustrating situation of parents having to repeatedly treat their children.  Head lice will still find their way but tied back hair can at least prevent some movement from head to head.  Also for safety reasons, as in running at playtime’s and during P.E, so they can clearly see and don’t catch it on anything.

Next week, we will be full on Christmassy!!  We will be looking at the ‘Christmas Story’ and carrying out a range of fun Christmas activities (lots of learning hidden within).  On Monday we will be going on a coach to Church to practise our Nativity.  The children do not need anything different, we will be back for lunch.  They just won’t be able to order toast etc, so please send in a named snack.

Spring Term – I am sooooooo excited about our new topic (already planning this as we speak).  You will receive more information about in this in the New Year.  But important changes you need to know are: PE will be on a Monday and it will be me teaching gymnastics and using our equipment safely.  Forest school will be on a Tuesday so please send them in their own clothes (suitable for the cold weather)  I find layers are always the best way to keep a child warm.

I will send home extra books for over the holidays, but PLEASE ensure the children just have as much fun and rest as possible.  They have worked extremely hard this term and made fabulous progress.  I am soooo proud of them all BUT they do need a break.  Obviously keep up with the reading or just read to them!

Have a super weekend,

Mrs Newman and Red Team
