Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! We have already got cracking on our new topic ‘Animal Magic’ this week and have been reading ‘The Gruffalo’. The children have been busy counting his purple prickles, labelling his body parts and searching for animals in the outdoor area.

This term we have a huge focus on reading, beginning to write sentences and numbers to 10 and then 20. Please keep on working with you child at home as this really does help.

You will have noticed that your child has brought home a new home learning book this evening. This is just to start get used to home learning and is not meant to be a huge task. Please enjoy doing these activities together and don’t spend too long on them as we don’t want the children put off by the experience. Just some children ‘love’ doing school work, even at home!

Once you have completed an activity, send the book in to be stamped and looked at and then we will send it home again. You can do one a week, but we do realise how busy families are. So just try your best. The activities match around the books we will be reading each week.

Letter and Sounds – this week we have been busy re-capping all previous sounds learned. So there won’t be any additional sheets tomorrow.

Reading – your child will be reading ‘lots’ in school, please reinforce this at home too. Thank you to everyone who comes in to make this happen.

Delamere trip – thank you to everyone who has sent back the replies. We now have ‘plenty’ of adult helpers so won’t be able to accept anymore. It’s going to be an amazing visit for our children!

  1. teacher – We are very lucky to have been given another student teacher this term. Her name is Miss Lunt and she has settled into school and got to know the children really well already. Miss Lunt is working hard taking lots of children out in groups for reading, writing and maths activities. Miss Lunt is with us for 3 days a week.

MYSTERY READER – Thank you to all of those parents who have already signed up to this. I have put dates available on the classroom door. PLEASE DON’T tell your child that you are coming, as it is a lovely surprise for them. Don’t forget to bring a book of your choice to read to them too.

P.E – this is now every TUESDAY at 9am. This week the children got changed really quickly, but I did feel a bit sorry for them, as they had only just probably got dressed at home. So, from now on every Monday evening your child will bring home their P.E kit. Please send them in it on the Tuesday with their school uniform in their P.E. bag so they can change after. We are doing gymnastics in the hall.

Next week – we will be reading ‘Room on the Broom’. So expect to hear about potions, brooms, wands, witches as well as ordinal number being taught, writing lists and flap books, looking at rhyming words, painting the characters and more!

Have a lovely weekend,

Red Team
