Red Class Newsletter 10-01-19

Date: 10th Jan 2019 @ 10:20pm

Dear Parents,

Well what a super first week we have had back after Christmas.  We hit the ground running and the children have been super busy learning through fun ways.  We have read the story ‘Whatever Next!’ this week and a range of other space stories too.  The children have had such fun playing in the space station, the hot air balloon reading corner and in all the boxes – acting out the story of going into space!  They have got a little sticky too from making paper mache planets, which will be finished off next week and hung up in our classroom for all to see.  They have done lots of reading and daily sentence writing and been practising counting backwards ready for our rocket taking off into space.  We chatted about what we would take with us into space and made a list of these – some said family, food, teddy bears, whilst others said i pads, buddies and ice-cream!

Next week we will be flying down from space and heading straight into a boat and reading ‘Who Sank the Boat?’  Lots of fun science will be learned through this story, such as; who do you think sank the boat and why?  Floating and sinking activities, making boats out of clay which can actually float, tin foil and junk model boats, more and less in maths, and lots more…

Gentle reminders –

  • Please label everything – even hats and gloves
  • Please cut grapes in half for snack due to choking
  • Please send only water in bottles
  • No bacon butties this week, but this will start up again NEXT week
  • Red class assembly will be on Friday 1st February at 10am

Home Learning – Well, I am so pleased how well these books went down with the children.  Some have already completed some tasks as they were so keen.  PLEASE take these books out of your child’s book bags and only put them in when you have a task completed that you would like me to see.  Otherwise I spend time checking these each day.  Once a piece is completed we share these with the class and praise the child for their work.  They loved it this week!

Spellings- you will receive a set of new spellings in your child’s spelling book tomorrow and these will continue like they did last term.

Thank you to all of the parent helpers who have offered some time to come in and read.  This is really making a big difference.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Newman and Red team
