Red Class Newsletter 08.02.18

Date: 8th Feb 2018 @ 9:48pm

Hello,
Firstly, thank you to all of you who were able to attend parents evening this week.  It was lovely to share your children's work and talk about their progress so far this year! We have received lots of positive feedback - which was truly lovely to hear!

This week the children have been writing words to describe snails and we have even had some writing their own stories.  In maths we have been weighing objects and guessing the weight of wrapped up parcels as well as counting objects reliably, finding out 1 more/less and doubling too.  Today we looked at the artist Henri Matisse and used his style to create our very own snails - the finished products are absolutely stunning (see our Facebook page).  The children have been writing words containing the 'ai' sound as in snail and made their own snail trails too.

Next Week - is STEAM week and is very different to our normal weeks.  There won't be PE or Forest school.  You should have all received your child's PE bag to wash and keep until after the half term.  You will be getting wellies and waterproofs tomorrow BUT these need returning for our Delamere Trip on Thursday please (We just thought they may need a wash before the trip).
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday your child will be moving around school in their river families and taking part in a range of STEAM activities.  During the session after play until lunchtime will be back in class and this will be time to hear them read and carry out all interventions we have going on as we don't want to stop this as it's making a big difference. So any PARENT HELPERS who come in, if you could still do so between 10:50-12pm to hear the children read this would be greatly appreciated.

Delamere Visit - Children need to wear appropriate outdoor clothing for this day and bring wellies and waterproofs too.  If you are sending your child with their own packed lunch, please do so in a named carrier bag and pack foods in packaging which can be binned.  Send in water bottles as normal.  We are planning to leave just after 9am and will be returning before 3:15pm.  We are very excited about this visit as there is so much to do and learn about.

This week has been Internet Safety week - Red class have watched clips about how to be safe online and have had a visit from PC Nick Jarvis too.  See our website for more information.

Home Learning - this seems to be have been a great success this half term.  The children have produced some lovely pieces of work.  We hope you are enjoying it too.

After half term we will kick off with 'The Stickman' and after that we will be moving on to other books about animals.  You will receive a new cloudy plan after half term with our learning on in more detail.

Over half term - please keep up with the reading and doodle maths and finish any of the home learning off.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Newman and Red Team
