Red Class Newsletter 07.09.18

Date: 14th Sep 2018 @ 12:07pm

Hello, well what a fabulous first week we have had! The children have settled into their new school life so well and learned so much in the space of a few days. They might have told you they haven't done anything, but we have been to an assembly, walked around the school to meet everyone and get our bearings, learned the 5 school rules, had circle times to get to know everyone and lots more! Over these first few weeks we will be assessing your child to know where they are up to and what we need to teach them next. I have attached my termly newsletter explaining lots of other things too (Sorry as there is a lot to tell you at the start). Thank you for all sending in your child's 'All About Me' book. I have had a good look through most of them now with your child telling me all about their life and they have shared with friends in class and with their buddy too. They are wonderful! Some important dates: Class meeting - Tuesday 11th September 3:30pm New Starters Welcome assembly - Friday 14th September 9:10am - all welcome and there will be tea and coffee after if you would like to stay. New Starters Picnic - you should have all received an invitation to a picnic. Please return slip asap. Evidence of children's work - We record children's work in a variety of ways in red class, we all have a special learning journal every term, we have a writing book, a curriculum book (new this year) and we also record on an online system 'My Learning Book'. You will receive log in details to this in the next few weeks and then you will be able to see observations, photos and even videos of your little ones at school. I loved having this for my own daughter and being able to see what she was up to! Due to the new GDPR in place this year, we will be sending a letter out to ask for your permission with this, as we do take photos of groups of children and whole class. But the system is secure and photos cannot be removed etc. Next week - We will looking at the Author Roald Dahl and will be looking at some of the books he has written. On Thursday it is 'Roald Dahl' day where your child can dress up as one of the characters or bring a prop in. Monday is forest school day, so please send children in appropriate clothing, no shoe laces please. We will be learning some basic rules and exploring our area. We will also be having a visitor from our local PSCO and she will be teaching our children how to cross the road safely. Tuesday is P.E please ensure bag is in. We will be playing and learning a range of games this half term. For the rest of the week, baseline assessments will be carried out whilst the children take part in a wide range of activities inside and outside of the classroom. This year we are going to start teaching the children cursive writing - you will receive the alphabet sheet to show you the letter style and your child will also bring home a laminated name card to practise. We set up this new handwriting style in school last year and we feel as a staff the children are best off learning this straight away to stop any confusion. These will be handed out next week. PLEASE remember to name everything and please could you write your child's name on the outside of their school bag so this is easily recognised. It has been such a great start to the year, we are all looking forward to the journey through school with your little one. Any problems or worries please do pop in and see me. We all make mistakes or get things wrong at times, but we only want the best for them all. Kind regards, Mrs Newman and Red team
