Red Class Newsletter 06.10.17

Date: 7th Oct 2017 @ 10:17pm

Hello all, We have had a very busy week learning about 'The Little Red Hen'. The children have thoroughly enjoyed carrying out lots of activities around this book and the bread was a huge success. We have started our work on numicon too, which is a great way of helping children learn their numbers, count, sort and lots more. If you were thinking of a good educational Christmas present then this is it! It is quite expensive but well worth it. It was lovely to see so many of you at Parents Evening on Thursday, we hope you found it useful and positive too. We gave out lots of useful information and resources for you to help your child at home. Here are some useful tips on how to use your sound cards - *Use them as flashcards - you say the letter name and ask the children to tell you the sound they make, the action and form the letter correctly with their finger. *Spread the letters out in front of them (only the ones we have taught) and see if they can spot them and hand them to you. *Spread the letters out and ask them to make simple words such as pin, sat, sit, pat, at, pit etc. Sound the words out and put the letter cards in order. Point to each one and say the sounds quickly to read the word. *Have the letters around the house and when they find them they have to make the sound and show you the action. *Double the letters and play 'pairs' or 'snap'. PLEASE make it quick and fun or the children will not want to do it. Next week, we are continuing our theme on families and reading the book 'Goldilocks and the 3 bears'. The children will be tasting different flavoured porridge to see which is their favourite. (please let me know if you do not want your child taking part in this). They will be acting out the story, sorting bears into size and colour, playing with porridge and bowls, writing which was their favourite porridge, learning bear facts, talking about stranger danger and discussing if Goldilocks did the right thing or not and much more... We also have a final year student starting with us next week. Her name is Emily McGraw and she has already met the children. We hope with Emly being in we can cover much more and make a real difference over the next few weeks. PE is on Monday Forest school is on Tuesday - don't worry if they say they saw a real bear, they won't have really! Reading- well done to everyone who is reading and sharing books at home. Please keep this up and working on letter sounds, it really does make a difference. Just remember to record this in their reading diaries too. See the rest of the parents at Monday nights parents evening. Have a lovely weekend, Lucy Newman
