Red Class Newsletter 05.10.18

Date: 5th Oct 2018 @ 10:58am

Dear Parents,
This week we have been learning all about The Little Red Hen.  The children have made repeated patterns using vegetables and paint, sorted a collection of words that rhyme with hen, made their own Red Hen hand print, a Red Hen made out of paper, counted hens, made bread and more....  We have had a super week of learning.

During our letters and sounds this week we have learned the letters - i, n and m.  We used all the letters learned so far to make words.  The children have to sound the words out and blend them back together.  This evening you will find the new letter sheets and also a pack of phase 2 letter cards.  These cards are a fantastic resource to have at home.  You can use them as flashcards and your child can tell you the name, sound, action and formation, or you can take them apart and make words with the letters.  For example - if you spread out the letters - s,a,t,p,i,n on the table.  Ask your child to make the word - sat, pin, pat, tin, tap, etc.  We have played this in class using large letters so they should enjoy showing you.  Please keep these at home and use regularly.

Next week - We will be reading the story 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'.  We have lots of exciting activities planned - here are just a few.  Porridge tasting, acting out the story with handmade headbands, writing about own teddy bear, sorting bears into colour and size, making a pictogram, playdough bears, porridge experiment table, cutting out teddy bears, colouring teddy bears, sequencing the story and more....  In fact there is so much it might even go into the week after.
On Tuesday we will be porridge tasting - please let me know if there is a problem with this at all for your child.
On Thursday please send in a teddy bear - we will be talking about our teddy bear, writing about him/her and using them to sort into size order.

Parents Evening - please book online, any problems please speak to the office.

and finally, now that the children have settled in incredibly well, we politely ask you to leave your child at the door.  They are superb at putting all their things away now and settle down to the school day well.  We are really proud of them all.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Newman and Red Team
