Orange Class News - 24th June 2016

Date: 24th Jun 2016 @ 10:02pm

We have certainly enjoyed a very sporty week in Orange Class.  The children have continued their Run to Rio challenge, participated in the whole school ‘Race for Life’, enjoyed a Tae Kwondo session and, the highlight of the week, our first swimming session!  A good time was had by all and we hope you got all of the correct belongings back!  In order to make managing their belongings as easy as possible for the children please do not pack shampoo, conditioner or shower gel.  We get out of the pool at 2.15pm and have to be on the coach at 2.30pm so do not have time for anything more than a quick rinse under the shower.  Please also ensure that your child can get their belongings in and out of their bag easily – we adults can roll a towel neatly to fit snugly in a small bag, but this can be a real challenge for the children.

This week we have also been exploring multiplication, counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, making groups and solving repeated addition problems.  In English we have started work on a garden themed poem, using colours as our inspiration.  We have also been finding out about continents and oceans, making maps and practicing songs for our Schoolsfest performance next Saturday.

Home Learning

You will have seen on the Newtletter that children need to learn the words to ‘All You Need is Love’ by The Beatles for home learning this week.  KS1 children only need to know the backing part and the chorus.

In addition I would like the children to practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.  We do not learn ‘times tables’ in Year 1 but counting confidently in these different steps is important pre-learning.

And finally, don’t forget that you have the ’50 things’ challenges.  We love hearing from the children about what they have ‘ticked off’ their lists.  I forgot to mention last week that we have all ticked off ‘dancing in the rain’ thanks to a very sudden downpour during Forest School.

Have a good weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
