Friday 1st July 2016

This week in Maths we have been exploring division by making sets or groups and English we have been writing about our favourite character from ‘The Faraway Tree’.  We have also been continuing to focus on our joined up handwriting, have been making lots of textured paper to create gardens for our poems and enjoyed a forest school session, exploring camouflage.

Schoolsfest – Barney Bear

We are looking forward to seeing lots of you at St Mary’s Church tomorrow morning at 10.30.  Mrs Swan and I will be there to meet you.  Please wear your school uniform.  After our performance we will release you back to your families to enjoy the rest of the experiences on offer.  I’m going to head off to the Museum for a peep at the artwork!

Magic Words

There will be no new magic words next week.  We are going to continue to practise the sounds from this week for another few days to make sure they’re really secure.  Please continue to practise your words from last week.

Milldale / Forest School

We are off to Milldale for our second visit on Tuesday. The weather looks dry at the moment, but if the forecast changes we will let you know and get their wellies and waterproofs ready to take with us.  Even if the forecast is dry please ensure your child has sturdy shoes as the ground is uneven and that they wear plenty of layers as the site is quite exposed and we had a couple of chilly bodies last time.

Children will need a drink in a disposable bottle please, a small snack that they can fit in their pocket and, if you have chosen to send one in from home, a packed lunch in a clearly named disposable bag please.  A school packed lunch will be supplied for everyone else but a drink and small snack are still needed.  You do not need to send in book bags and folders as we will be out all day.  Please keep bags and extras to a minimum as the children need to be able to manage their own belongings.

Parent Helpers – I will contact you by e-mail to confirm that you are still able to come and with details of what you need to bring.

There will be no Forest School on Monday because of this visit, so please come to school in your uniform.

Home Learning

My goodness we could tell that you’ve been learning the words to ‘All You Need is Love’ !  You sounded fabulous in our singing lesson this week and Mrs Minshull was very impressed!

The children have been very interested in the Amazon rainforest this week and coincidentally that ties in very neatly with something I was planning to do next week.  So, in preparation I would like you to do the following for your home learning.

Imagine that you are an explorer in the Amazon rainforest.  What can you see, hear and smell?  What creatures are around you?  Now imagine that you discover something that no-one else has ever seen before.  It could be a plant or an insect, a fish, a bird or a mammal.  I would like you to draw and label a picture of your discovery and you need to give it a name.  Have you discovered the first Great Stripy Tree Frog or the Amazon Blue Grasshopper or the Miniature Purple Oak Tree?  I can’t wait to see what you discover on your adventure

Have a good weekend and we look forward to seeing some of you tomorrow and everyone on Monday.
