Orange Class News - 11th March 2016

Date: 14th Mar 2016 @ 11:15am

What a busy week!  It was lovely to see so many of you at the Parents Evenings this week and we hope you enjoyed having a look at the children’s learning too.  We enjoyed a fabulous visit to the Birds of Prey Centre on Wednesday – despite the rain.  It has been wonderful to hear the children talking so enthusiastically about all the things we learned.

We have also been exploring weighing this week, designing our own islands, thinking about some rules that Max could take when he visits the Wild Things, writing about our trip.

Next Friday (18th March) is ‘Weddings Day’ in Orange Class.  We will be using all of the fantastic research you did a few weeks ago to learn more about weddings and we also have a very special visitor coming in to tell us more about weddings from a different culture.  There will be no forest school next week so children should come in their uniform.

Our Barney Bear performance in Hanley is on the following Wednesday (23rd March).  I have been advised that if you are coming to see the performance and are unable to make separate collection arrangements for siblings (remember we are late back) that you can bring them with you.  You must book them a ticket and please also ensure that you advise their class teacher ahead of time.

Home Learning

We’re so pleased to hear that the children enjoyed their maths home learning so much.  I will explore the activities on offer in more detail; so look out for another ‘My Maths’ home learning in the next few weeks.  I will always let you know on the weekly newsletter when I have set an online maths challenge for home learning.  We are working on a fix to enable you to access the activities via i-pads and I will let you know as soon as we have tested it to ensure it works properly with the website.

I have a slightly different home learning challenge this week.  As you know, I am always keen to include as many of the children’s ideas as possible in my planning and I’m already thinking about the summer term.  Our theme will be loosely based around ‘Plants and Growing’ so I would like the children to think about what they would like to find out.  Are you really interested in what lives on trees?  Would you like to know more about how plants grow and what they need?  Do you want to understand more about how we use plants?  Tell me anything at all that interests you about plants and I’ll try to include it in our plans for next term.

Have a good weekend.  We look forward to seeing you on Monday.
