Orange Class News - 10th June 2016

Date: 10th Jun 2016 @ 9:28pm

Friday 10th June  2016

Welcome back.  We hope you all had a relaxing half-term break.  The children have certainly been full of news to share about their adventures over the holidays.

This week we have been exploring money.  We have been recognising coins and making simple totals, exchanging lower value coins for higher ones.  In English we have started a new story and have been making predictions about what might happen next.  We have also been using the felt that we made before the holidays to create something for the cover of our learning journal and have revisited our science experiment to evaluate what we discovered and what we have learned.

We enjoyed a fabulous Sports Day this morning and it was lovely to see so many of you there to cheer on the children.  We were really proud of them.  They gave their all but also had a great time and really enjoyed just taking part.  After watching KS2 it was a lovely finish for us all to enjoy a fish and chip picnic on the field together.

Year 1 Phonics Check

Next week is phonics check week.  The children know that they will be coming out with me, at some point during the week, to do a little ‘quiz’.  Other than that we are keeping things very ‘low-key’.  There will be no new magic words or guided reading next week.  If you would like to work with your child on recognising and reading words that include the key sounds (in the centre pages of their reading diaries) that would be great.  You will be informed of the results as soon as they have been moderated – they are usually verified in time to come out with reports.

Orange Class start swimming on Friday 24th June.  We still need a couple of parent helpers for support with getting on and off the coach and helping the children to manage their belongings in the changing rooms.  If you can spare a couple of hours (from 12.45 – 3.00pm) for 4 weeks from 24th June, please let me know via e-mail or a note in your child’s reading diary.

It’s not long until our Barney Bear performance at Schoolsfest on Saturday 2nd July at 10.30am at St Mary’s Church in Nantwich.  Remember, this is the final opportunity to see the children perform selected songs from the performance (and I really don’t want to be singing on my own!!).

I have been asked to get a rough idea of numbers to help organise seating etc.  I will be sending out a form (attached) on Monday.  Please complete and return to me as soon as possible so that I can organise the spaces for our children.

Home Learning

This week we have been exploring money, making totals and exchanging lower value for higher value coins.  I have set you a My Maths home learning challenge to practise your skills. (your login details are inside the back cover of your reading diary)

i-pad users – The free app called ‘Puffin Web Browser’ can be download from the App Store to access the ‘MyMaths’ challenges on your i-pad.

Parents – please don’t worry if your child cannot complete part 2 of Question 2, we have not completed this in class yet.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.
