Dear Children, Parents and Carers,

The children have done some really great pieces of writing this week.  We watched clips from ‘La Luna’, a short Disney Pixar film, to inspire some lengthy pieces of creative writing.  It is lovely to see how far the children have progressed.

In Maths we have been continuing reading scales for temperature, weight, length and capacity.  The children were a bit rusty on these.  Please look at packaging and talk about the different measures.

Run2Rio – all children are invited to join in with Run2Rio activities before school Monday-Thursday mornings from 8.30. Any laps completed then will be added to our ‘running’ total. We are also completing laps during the day, which add to the school total.

SATs – Although we have been looking at SATs style questions in Maths and Comprehension I have not mentioned the tests to the children because I really don’t want them worrying about them.  Once the tests are completed they will be marked internally.  I will then give a teacher assessment based on these tests AND the children’s work across the whole year.

I plan to do the tests during the last two weeks of May, although the plan is very flexible. The children will be working in small groups in a relaxed atmosphere.

w/c 16th May – English Reading Papers

w/c 23rd May – Maths Papers (Arithmetic and Mathematical Reasoning)

Forest Schools is TUESDAY 17th May.

Spellings – Please can you support your child in spending 10 minutes a day working on their spellings.  They need to be able to spell them and use them correctly in a sentence. ‘Little and often’ is the best approach to ensure your child retains these spellings and uses them in their independent writing.

Home learning – Please encourage your child to complete their home learning tasks to the best of their ability. Home learning needs to be returned to school on Tuesdays.

Request – Please can you check all uniform/forest school clothing that came home last term. There are still a number of named items missing.
