Yellow Class Newsletter

6th March 2016

Dear Children, Parents and Carers,

What a great week we’ve had!

We have continued learning more about The Great Fire of London, looking at information texts and thinking about how we can produce our own.

Our maths work continued looking at addition through partitioning, counting on to find missing values and applying these skills to real life problems.   Please see the sheet in the Home Learning books to see the method we have been using and ask the children to show you how to do it!

We have also been reminding ourselves about the different ways in which we can measure things – grams and kilograms for mass; centimetres, metres and kilometres for length, millilitres and litres for capacity and seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years for time.  There certainly is a lot to remember! Please encourage you child to look at measurements on packaging around the house to remind them how we use these measures every day.

World Book Day was on Wednesday and what an action packed day we had as we shared favourite characters and books with each other; were introduced to lots of new books by the teachers in assembly; enjoyed The Great Key Stage 1 Book Swap, where we all took home a new book; took part in a book trail around school, guessing the books that had been depicted on each classroom door and used some of our favourite picture books to help us practise using speech marks for direct speech. Quite exhausting!

Beeston – There will be a brief class meeting on Tuesday 15th March at 3.15 in Yellow Classroom to answer and queries you may have.  If you have a question but are unable to attend please email me.

Thank you to those who attended the SATs meeting on Tuesday. It took a while to discuss all the changes and expectations of the new curriculum but I hope you think it was worth it.  Information sheets have been sent home and the presentation will be available on the website.

Outdoor leaning is this week, Wednesday 9th March.

Please catch me at drop-off, collection or email if you need to contact me.
