Dear Children, Parents and Carers,

Our maths work continued looking at addition and subtraction, the link between the two and how they can be used together to answer 1 and 2 step problems and use them together to check their work.  I hope the sheets I have sent home have been useful in explaining the methods we have been using.  I understand that these methods may be different from those you understand and were taught at school.  The methods we used are aimed at the children developing the understanding and skills to complete the calculations mentally. It is really important that the children have a firm grasp of place value (tens and units) before progressing to more formal written methods.

We continued our work on the Great Fire of London.  We have written a class poem and created our own non-fiction information page.  We have also been looking at homophones – words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings - to/two/too being a great example. These are tricky to crack so please try to point them out to children when you’re out and about.

Thank you for attending parents evening.  It was great to get to speak to you all about your children and thank you also for your ongoing support.

Beeston – There will be a brief class meeting on Tuesday 15th March at 3.15 in Yellow Classroom to answer any queries you may have.  If you have a question but are unable to attend please email me.

Outdoor learning clothes were sent home on Wednesday so that you can get ready for Beeston next week. Please take home the children’s wellies too and check that they still fit.

Please catch me at drop-off, collection or email if you need to contact me.

Regards,

Kay Morrell
