Year 3 Class News Letter

Monday 6th June 2016

Dear Parents,

What a lovely few days we’ve had at the end of half term. It looks as though we may get a few more days of sunshine this week as well, so please remember sun cream before school and hats.

I’ve spoken to Mrs Howard and it sounds as though the children had a great time learning about measurement, making peppermint creams and starting to write letters as an evacuee.

This is exactly where we will pick up this week; getting those letters finished.  The children had so much to write about using their visit to Woodcocks’ Wells as the inspiration.  We’ll be publishing them in our learning journals as well.

I’m looking forward to seeing if anybody has completed any of their 50 active outdoor challenges. I missed the launch of this being away from school, but I’m really looking forward to hearing all about it.

Thank you for your wonderful support with the visit – the children looked amazing! They had such a stunning time and they’ve all commented how much they enjoyed the whole day. The highlight for me was singing in the bomb shelter – the children sounded fantastic.

This week we will be learning all about dig for victory, make do and mend and rationing – if you have any information about these, any old ration books, or stories, then please get in touch. We’d love to hear about old recipes and how clothes were fixed! The children have even started sewing in class.

Mrs Howard enjoyed measuring how far the children could throw javelins before half term and introducing decimal numbers.  We’ll be looking at time this week and measuring timed laps of our field. The children will learn about the 24-hour clock and decimals numbers through time, eg 2 minutes 25 seconds.

24-hour clock -

We will continue our athletics on Monday’s and of course it is Sports Day on Friday afternoon! I look forward to seeing you all there on Friday and maybe seeing you in a race or two!  I, of course, will be defending my KS2 winning sticker from last year – and yes, I’ve still got it!

We have Ms Hennessy Jones coming into class on Thursday to help us get our artwork ready for SkoolsFest in the summer. This year’s theme is Faith, Hope and Charity and the artwork will be on display in the town centre.

The children who have been selected for Town Sports will resume training on Monday night after school. Please make sure the children attend these important training sessions.

I will of course be Tweeting and Facebooking throughout the year. I’ll keep you up to date throughout the term via:

Twitter - and our News Letters.

If you have any questions please get in touch as soon as you can.  If you can’t make it to school, please email me

Yours sincerely,

Mr Chris Waterworth
