Year 3 Class News Letter

Monday 4th July 2016

Dear Parents,

We’ve had such a great week this week and the children have really enjoyed the work we’ve done.

We worked hard with our fractions this week and the children are beginning to understand how to multiply and divide to create equivalent fractions. We’ll be solving problems involving fractions this week.  Keep looking at those videos on Edmodo.

Fraction Wall: http://www.visnos.com/demos/fraction-wall

There is a little more work on fractions on My Maths if the children have the time to complete it – no pressure though.

Speaking of Edmodo it’s been great to see so many of the children posting their thinking about our Science topic this week.  They have been learning more and more about rocks and researching really well

We spent Friday afternoon investigating a variety of rocks by looking, scraping and sketching what we found out.  We will be trying to organize the rocks we have observed into degrees of hardness.  The children will be looking at soil as well this week and learning about what makes up the different soil in our school grounds.

I’m going to ask the children to bring some soil from their garden or local park this week, so we can compare. It can come in any container or package.  It would be great if you could send any small empty drinks bottles into school this week as well.

I was thrilled with the children’s attitudes during our Shakespearean drama sessions this week. They really committed to the whole experience and I’m getting more and more excited about the performance each time we go into the hall, sorry theatre!

The children are almost at the ‘polishing’ stage of our performance this week and we’ll be rehearsing hard to make it one the best they’ve performed so far at Pear Tree.  There is a final speech I’ve asked the whole class to learn by heart before our performance.  We’ll practise in school, but please encourage them to try it out at home.  Here it is

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;

The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:

Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things:

Some shall be pardon’d, and some punished:

For never was a story of more woe

Than this of Juliet and her Romeo

The children will need black trousers/leggings and a red t-shirt for the performance.  Please make sure the children’s costume is in school for Friday 8th of July, ready for our dress rehearsal and performance the following week.

I hope you enjpyed reading your child’s school report and are pleased with how much progress they’ve made this year. It was lovely reading all their comments about the things they’ve really enjoyed this year.

It’s move up day on Wednesday from 10.00am-12.00pm.  Your child will be moving up to Blue class and will be meeting their new teacher. It’s a great chance for their new teacher to learn all about their new class. I can’t believe the year is nearly over! Where did it go?

Parents’ Evening: The final parents’ evening is an opportunity to ask any questions about your child’s report.  The report tells you everything I would be telling you at a parents’ evening. We won’t be sharing books, as they will be coming home next week.

SkoolsFest was fantastic! I went along to sing as part of the teachers’ choir and really enjoyed my day out in Nantwich. It was also lovely to see many of our children taking part throughout the day. Thank you for your support.

It’s also the final of Pear Tree’s Got Talent (PTGT) on Thursday. Good luck to all our children who are taking part – I hope I’m a judge this year!

There will be one more news letter next week before the summer break.

I will of course be Tweeting and Facebooking throughout the year. I’ll keep you up to date throughout the term via:
