Year 3 Class News Letter

Monday 11th July 2016

Dear Parents,

Such a busy week – where does the time go?

This week in maths we will be learning how to use the compact method of addition and subtraction.  You can use these videos to help you work with the children. They are the methods that we encourage the children to use to be most efficient.

Science has been a real hit again this week when the children wondered what was underneath our school field? Only one way to find out – we went digging. The children with be sieving the soil this week.

If you have any soil from home you could send in at some point this week it would be great to compare the samples from school to the ones from your own home.

I was thrilled with the children’s attitudes during our Shakespearean drama sessions this week. They really committed to the whole experience and I’m getting more and more excited about the performance each time we go into the hall, sorry theatre!

There is a final speech I’ve asked the whole class to learn by heart before our performance.  We’ll practise in school, but please encourage them to try it out at home.  Here it is

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;

The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:

Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things:

Some shall be pardon’d, and some punished:

For never was a story of more woe

Than this of Juliet and her Romeo

The children will need black trousers/leggings and a red t-shirt for the performance.  Please make sure the children’s costume is in school on Monday or at the very latest on Tuesday morning, ready for the performances.

The children need to be back in school at 6.40pm on Tuesday night, ready for the performance to start at 7.00pm.  If you have any tickets you are not using, please make sure you return them as we have had requests for more tickets.

The children have begun writing a super monologue putting themselves in Verona during the time of the feuding Capulets and Montagues.  We’ll be editing and publishing this week in our learning journals.

The journals are looking great and the children are excited to be bringing them home next week!

Good luck to the children who are representing year 3 and 4 in our friendly football match on Thursday. #GoNewts!

There will be one more newsletter next week before the summer break.

I will of course be Tweeting and Facebooking throughout the year. I’ll keep you up to date throughout the term via:
