Royal Wedding 2018

Prince Harry and Miss Meghan Markle

To mark the marriage of Prince Harry to Miss Meghan Markle on Saturday May 19th we are holding our very own Pear Tree ‘Royal Wedding’ on Friday May 18th plus a Royal Wedding Cake ‘Cake Off’ and a re-enactment of a wedding for two specially chosen pupils. This will be led by the new rector of St Marys, Mark Hart. The Bride and Groom, bridesmaids and page boys/Groomsmen will be selected from those who want to put their name in the hat from Green Class and the extended Royal family members from Blue Class. We will have a rehearsal before the big day too! If your child is in Year 3 or 4 and would like to have their name ‘in the hat’ for a ‘Royal role’ then please complete the slip below and return it to their class teacher. On the day we encourage each child to come dressed for a wedding but please do not go to any additional expense!

Following the service we will then be holding an afternoon tea party on the school yard (fingers crossed for fine weather) and then sending off the happy couple for a special circuit of the estate in a wedding car! It promises to be a super day and ties in with our British Values and RE themes.

Each class is being asked to take charge of one element of our afternoon tea but strictly no nuts!:

Red and Orange - Sandwiches fit for a Queen (and 217 children!)

Yellow – Crisps and fruit

Green – Plastic bowls and biscuits

Blues – Napkins and cakes

Indigo – Sausage rolls, savoury bites, quiche, vol-u-vents etc.

Violet – Plastic cups, Paper plates, squash

Our Royal Wedding Cake will be decided by a team of ‘experts in cake’ in the morning and we invite children and their pupils to enter a cake. The winning cake will be cut as part of our celebration tea by the bride and groom and other cakes sold off at the end of the afternoon with all proceeds going toward the new building fund! (Please see attached ‘Cake-Off’ entry form.

If you have any further questions then please pop in to see your child’s class teacher.

Please complete the slip/s below for each child you have in the school indicating on what items you are willing to donate to the afternoon tea so we can plan and return to each class teacher. Please complete the second section if your child wants to a royal family member for the day!

If you have any other ideas or items you could provide please don’t hesitate to let us know – we would particularly like a ‘sewing bee’ to make bunting!

With kind regards,
