Orange Class 2019 - 2020

Miss Addis

Orange Class Teacher

Dear Parents,

Welcome back, we hope you have all had a fantasticChristmas and New Year.  This newsletter is intended to give you a quick overview of all the exciting topics we are going to be learning about this term.

Our learning this term:

This term, our selected topic is called ‘Houses and Homes’, within this we will be looking at our homes within Stapeley and how the estate we so fondly admire has changed over the past couple of decades.

Within English, we will be reading lots of the well-loved traditional tales that the children have grown up with and love to explore. Some of the tales we will be diving into are:

• Little Red Riding Hood

• The Jolly Postman

• Goldilocks and The Three Bears

• Cinderella

• The Three Little Pigs

And lots more… we will also be looking at alternative endings which may surprise some of your children and inspire their imagination along with their writing!

Within the classroom we have a brand new role play area, welcome to the ‘Fairy tale forest’ and ‘Fairy tale post office’. This is for the children to sit around the fairy light camp fire, share camp fire stories and roast pretend marshmallows whilst cosying up within the wicker tepee. Then its time for the children to ‘clock in’ to their shift at the ‘Fairy tale post office’ and sort out the magical mail and write letters to their favourite traditional tale characters.

Visit:

This term we are hoping to visit Sudbury Hall and the National Trust Museum of Childhood, to look at how over the decades our ‘houses and homes’ have altered drastically with the choice of music, our choice of bedroom décor and the toys we chose to play with. More information will follow shortly.

Parent helpers:

We would absolutely appreciate more support to join our Orange Class team, we would love to utilise your skills within our class! If you could let us know if you are interested, please let us know during pick up or inform Mrs Nixon in the office, who will pass the message on.

P.E and Forest School:

P.E will be every Tuesday at 9:45, in which your children will need their full P.E kit in school. Please ensure your children’s kit has their name on every item of clothing. Forest School will be every Wednesday Morning, your child will need appropriate clothing that will keep them warm and dry during the cooler months. Furthermore, please provide your child with wellies for our forest school session and I suggest packing an extra pair of cosy socks in case their feet get cold or wet. On a Tuesday your child can come to school in their forest school clothing or if preferred we can get them changed within school. If it an extremely muddy session, we will send kit home so they can be washed otherwise any of their kit can remain in school.

Reading/ letters and sounds:

Thank you to all of you for the hard work and support you have put in with reading, your children are making brilliant progress and have found a love for reading, which is the most important aspect! Please continue with listening to your child read when ever possible and model those trickier words. We have been busy making phase 3 and phase 4 phonics flash cards to help children who may need reminding of the letters and sounds they learnt within Red Class, if you would like a set please let us know at the end of the day and we will have them ready for you as soon as possible. We will be continuing to teach new letter sounds each day, these are getting particularly tricky now so I really need you to reinforce these sounds at home too. This can be whilst the children are reading or by making it engaging and exciting through phonics games, such as grapheme eye spy, phonics role and say and lots more.

Homework and spellings:

New pieces of homework and spellings will be given out each Friday. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings as often as they can, as they will have a spelling quiz the following Friday to see their progression and where they may require more support. Both homework and spelling books need to be in school on a Friday, ready for their next piece of work.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support, we are very excited to see what this term has in store for us.

Kind regards,

The Orange Class Team - Miss Addis and Mrs Cliff.
