Orange Class 2019 - 2020

Miss Addis

Orange Class Teacher

Welcome back, we hope you all had a fantastic summer and are feeling replenished for the new academic year ahead. We have noted below some items, which we believe will help everyone, to ensure a smooth transition in our journey together throughout year 1.

Home learning books:

Home learning books will be sent out on Fridays with a new task for the children to complete. These will be collected in on Thursday mornings for marking. Within the home learning books, there will be four weeks’ worth of homework stuck in, please do not complete all of them, it is only one piece to be completed each week. We have just prepared homework for the next few weeks to come. There is also a grid at the front of your child’s home learning book, when they have completed a piece of homework, either myself or Mrs Cliff, will either stamp, sign or put a sticker in the box.

Spellings:

Spellings will also be sent home on Fridays, to help secure your children’s understanding please use the look, cover, write, check format. If you are unfamiliar with it, here is a helpful link that explains how to implement it https://www.theschoolrun.com/Look-Cover-Write-Check-explained. Children will be assessed on Friday afternoons to highlight any areas where they need more support and to celebrate their accomplishments within spelling.

Reading:

We are extremely excited for this year to come as we are aware that our class is full of super readers and it would be amazing if we can keep up this love of reading throughout the year. Please continue to read with your children each night and jot a note within their reading diaries. These will be checked every morning and if your child has read they will move their peg on our reading flowers. When your child has read five times and has reached our fifth flower then they will choose a ‘treat’ out of our class treat box.

Lastly, during our INSET day meeting a brilliant idea was mentioned, that if possible, it would be extremely beneficial if your child could wear an analogue watch each day bar their scheduled P.E day, which this year will be Tuesday mornings. Evidence has shown that wearing an analogue watch boosts children’s confidence and enables children to be inquisitive with time and encourages them to practice reading it. This will stimulate conversations within the classroom environment about telling the time and allow children to be more independent.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask or email myself or Mrs Cliff and our door is always open.

For future updates please refer to the school website.

Kind regards,

The Year 1 Team - Miss Addis and Mrs Cliff.
